Event Planning During a Pandemic

Due to the current state of events caused by Covid-19, events and celebrations have been largely impacted. I spoke with KUNC to give guidance to how to celebrate your graduate and virtual graduations.

Check out the link to listen to the Colorado Edition on KUNC.

And if you are looking for ways to celebrate your graduate here are some great ways to commemorate them:

  1. Host an Online Graduation Party

There are many resources to have a virtual gathering such as Zoom, Google Hangouts and Houseparty to name a few. Schedule the date for your online party, and send invitations to your guests. Invitations can be done either online or mailed out with the link to the party. Ask your friends and family to decorate their screen background with pictures, school colors, balloons, etc. Other than talking, take the time to have a Story Swap or ask the graduate to share a link to their online capstone projects.

  2. Porch Party

If you have the means for an in-person celebration, graduates or host families can decorate their porch or front lawn for guests to stop by. Of course, we want to encourage everyone to continue social distancing and wear masks for in-person celebrations. Display fun pictures, balloons, a card box and you can even hand out cake or party favors to the guests that stop by.

  3. Parade Graduation

Friends and family of the graduation can organize a time to meet together and everyone drives by the graduates residence- parade style! We encourage everyone to decorate their vehicles with signs, streamers of school colors and balloons for the graduate. When guests drive-by, they can honk and praise the graduate for their much deserved celebration.

We encourage you to get creative and celebrate the hard work that your graduate has put in, of course at a safe distance!
